This size is a byproduct of our grading process of the massively popular Perlite Chunky #3 that we sell under a different listing. It is a bit hard to categorize, but if we had to categorize it it would come in much closer to Perlite #2 grade than anything else, but we feel it is a wee bit bigger. It is a little bit larger than Orchiata Precision and a bit smaller than Orchiata Classic so it works great for both of those. As this is a byproduct, we will never carry a huge amount of this product
Tired of buying perlite that has been graded to a specific size only to open the bag and find a ton of dust and particle grades completely different to what you ordered? Same here, so we bought a commercial grader and grade our own now!
Anyone notice around June 2023 chunky perlite became nearly impossible to find? For unknown reasons one of the best producers in the industry closed their doors. This producer did one thing different to all the other producers, their grader was towards the end of the production line so the finished product was far more consistent and true to its specified grade. We have tried countless other vendors and the consistency has ranged from not bad to us checking our orders to see if we accidentally ordered a bag of dust instead of chunks!
We finally found a producer that was fairly close to our original supplier, but even though they were way better than all the other producers we tested, 35-40% of every bag was still not true to size and contained a huge amount of dust with smaller particles
If you are using perlite to add to a regular soil blend, this is no problem at all, and the raw product will work fantastic for you, but, if you are like us and specifically buy Perlite #3 grade because you need it chunky, these smaller chunks and huge amounts of dust are a real pain to deal with.
PLEASE NOTE: WE DO NOT SOURCE BLEACHED PERLITE (Yes, it's apparently a thing, who knew!). THIS PRODUCT WILL NOT BE SPARKLY WHITE! EVEN THOUGH WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED THE BLEACHED FORMS ARE COMPLETELY INERT, WE LIKE THINGS AS NATURAL AS POSSIBLE!
WE WILL ONLY SHIP THIS PRODUCT IN A BOX! SHIPPING IT IN A BAG TO GET CRUSHED BY OTHER PACKAGES WOULD BE A COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME
PLEASE NOTE: When we prepare our orders for this product, there is absolutely no dust in the bag/box, but it has been brought to our attention a tiny number of packages were arriving with a very small layer of dust. After some research we found it was actually the rubbing and frictional contact of the perlite chunks during shipping that was causing the extra dust. We have since changed our packing process to reduce this as much as possible, and the results have been fantastic. We have done everything possible to ensure this product arrives with minimal dust, but we cannot control how rough the mail carriers are with the packages, it is simply out of our control. Even if this does happen to your order, we assure you there is going to be so much less dust than anything else out there on the market. If the mail carrier decides to use your order for football practice (you know what I mean!) please reach out to us so we can process a return for you.
