Nepenthes Mix - Sphagnum & Perlite (Mix #121)

NEPENTHES POTTING MIX #121

Sometimes, the simplest formulations are the most effective.

Developed for Nepenthes growers, Mix #121 combines premium New Zealand sphagnum moss petals with washed, double-graded perlite to create a lightweight, moisture-retentive growing medium with excellent aeration and drainage.

Suitable for many commonly cultivated highland, intermediate, and lowland Nepenthes, this straightforward formulation provides a balance of moisture and air around the roots without unnecessary additives.

WHAT MAKES MIX #121 DIFFERENT?

It's not just what goes into the mix. It's the quality and preparation of those ingredients.

Unlike conventional long-fiber sphagnum, our New Zealand sphagnum moss petals are fluffy and stem-free, avoiding the long strands that can become entangled with delicate roots during repotting.

We pair these with triple washed, double-graded Perlite #2, selected for consistent particle sizing and an open substrate structure.

Just two ingredients. Nothing unnecessary.

WHAT'S IN THE BAG?

New Zealand Sphagnum Moss Petals
Retains and distributes moisture throughout the root zone.

Perlite #2
Maintains air spaces, supports drainage, and keeps the mix lightweight.

WATERING & USE

Moisture-retentive doesn't mean waterlogged!

Water thoroughly using rainwater, distilled water, or appropriately purified low-mineral water, allowing excess water to drain freely.

Maintain appropriate moisture for your particular Nepenthes, adjusting watering frequency according to temperature, humidity, airflow, and container size.

As the sphagnum naturally ages and decomposes, monitor the substrate and repot when necessary.

IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS

Nepenthes are a diverse genus, and no single substrate is ideal for every species or growing environment. Some may benefit from a coarser formulation or different moisture balance.

Successful cultivation depends on matching the growing medium, watering practices, and environmental conditions to your particular plants.
