This mix was made for a well known African Violet grower who wanted to eliminate Peat from their mix as its harvesting is so bad for the environment. This is mix is so light and fluffy and the ingredients make it ideal for wick culture
This is a moisture-forward, biologically active tropical foliage substrate designed for controlled environments, smaller containers, and active growth cycles. It sits firmly on the forest floor end of the spectrum, not canopy and not epiphytic.
Think deep humus layers beneath dense tropical understory—where fibrous organic matter dominates, moisture is continuous, and roots are fine, exploratory, and highly responsive. This mix prioritizes hydration stability, root contact, and biological continuity, not structural rigidity or long dry-downs.
This is a growth-phase medium, not a long-cycle structural substrate.
(Meticulously blended to work harmoniously with each other)
Tree Fern Fiber – Primary structural and biological matrix. Provides exceptional root adhesion, moisture regulation, and slow, predictable decomposition while maintaining porosity.
Coconut Coir – Secondary moisture backbone. Creates continuous hydration and fine root contact without peat compaction. Increases water-holding while remaining resilient.
Perlite – Inorganic aeration counterbalance. Prevents anaerobic conditions within a moisture-dominant mix and maintains oxygen availability at depth.
Vermiculite – Moisture and nutrient moderator. Expands internal water retention and improves cation exchange, especially important in smaller containers.
Worm Castings – Biological engine. Supplies gentle nutrition, microbial life, and fine-particle moisture continuity without overwhelming the root zone.
Biochar – Long-term microbial habitat and nutrient buffer. Improves CEC and stabilizes fertility over time without altering structure.
This mix is for growers who want consistent moisture, fast establishment, and active growth, especially in controlled indoor environments.
Best suited for growers who:
Grow tropical foliage plants with fine to medium root systems
Want reliable moisture without peat
Grow in smaller to mid-size containers
Maintain stable indoor temperatures
Prefer predictable watering behavior
It is ideal if you:
Grow understory plants
Upsize incrementally
Run cabinets, shelves, or dense collections
Want a forgiving mix with strong biological support
Large, woody, or buttress-rooted plants
Long-term “set it and forget it” potting
Chronic overwatering in cool spaces
Dry, cold, or low-airflow environments
Growers expecting fast dry-down
Drainage holes are mandatory.
Do not overpot. This mix performs best when roots occupy volume.
Allow slight surface dry-down, not full dry-out.
Reduce watering frequency in cool or low-light conditions.
Fertilize lightly and consistently; castings and vermiculite already contribute.
This is a moisture-continuous mix, not an airy one.
Calathea, Maranta, Ctenanthe, Stromanthe, Spathiphyllum, Aglaonema, Dieffenbachia, Syngonium (juvenile and mature), Philodendron (smaller climbing and self-heading types), Anthurium andraeanum hybrids, Alocasia (small to medium species), Begonia (rex and cane types), Peperomia (non-succulent types), Fittonia, Pilea, Ferns (terrestrial types), African violets (large containers), indoor herbs grown under lights

Optional booster packs are formulated specifically for this mix and contain 100% natural ingredients to support early root establishment.
They do not replace regular fertilization.
They support plants for approximately 1–2 months after repotting.
Mix thoroughly into the substrate before use.
Do not apply as a surface top-dress.
All mixes are hand-blended to order using high-quality ingredients sourced from reputable suppliers. Nothing is pre-mixed or mass-produced.
These formulations were developed with professional grower input and refined through extensive real-world testing across multiple environments.
