Airy, moisture-balanced and customizable. A three-ingredient blend that gives roots moisture without giving up the air space they need.
Although Mix #118 was developed with orchids and aroids in mind, it may also suit other tropical plants, suitable seedlings and established cuttings that appreciate a combination of moisture retention, drainage and aeration. Match the selected bark grade, pot and watering routine to the plant's root system and growing conditions.
This mix has completely blown us away with the results we've seen when using it alongside a regular feeding program. In our own trials, photographs documented growth on a plant one month after repotting, while close-ups showed new root formation on some test plants after just 10 days.
We've had such encouraging results that we've even started moving selected seedlings into this blend directly from their community pots. Those observations are from our own growing conditions, not a promise of identical growth rates for every plant.
Three ingredients, a deliberate balance: Orchiata pine bark creates the framework, sphagnum moss petals hold and distribute moisture, and graded perlite helps maintain aeration and drainage.
Choose your bark size: Select Orchiata Precision (extra small), Classic (small), Power (medium), or our Original Blend combining Classic and Power at checkout. We'll match the perlite particle size to the bark selection you choose.
This allows you to select a texture that better suits your plant and pot while keeping the same ingredient proportions.

STEP 2 — CHOOSE YOUR ORCHIATA BARK SIZE
We'll automatically match the perlite particle size to the bark grade you select. No separate perlite selection is needed.
Mix #118 is intended for suitable orchids and aroids that benefit from moisture retention alongside an open, airy root zone. Its selectable particle size makes it useful to consider for plants with different root sizes, including selected seedlings and young plants. Species requirements vary; choose the texture and watering approach appropriate to your plant rather than assuming one grade works for everything.
Water thoroughly in a pot with adequate drainage and check moisture within the root zone before watering again. Sphagnum petals can retain water even when the surface looks dry, while bark grade, pot size, temperature, humidity and airflow influence how quickly the mix dries. Adjust watering to the plant and your conditions rather than following a fixed schedule.
Our mixes are formulated to provide a balance of moisture, aeration, structural integrity and drainage for their intended plants. Even the best growing media cannot compensate for unsuitable growing conditions or improper care.
Plant performance also depends on container drainage, watering, airflow, lighting, humidity, feeding and plant selection. A well-draining mix cannot work as intended in a pot without adequate drainage, and an airy blend may dry faster than expected near a heat source or air-conditioning vent.
These mixes are professional growing tools. Results depend on how they are used.
By choosing one of our professionally handcrafted mixes, you're supporting a small business genuinely obsessed with plant health. Every bag is hand-blended to order because we believe your plants deserve better than mass-produced big-box soil. We can't wait to see your plants thrive!
Happy Planting!
