Designed for Orchids, Aroids, and other plants that appreciate substantial air around their roots, #122 combines fast drainage with a coarse, fibrous structure that provides excellent root attachment while retaining useful moisture between waterings.

🌿 THE STORY BEHIND #122
Some of our most complicated formulas took dozens of attempts to get right.
#122 wasn't one of them.
On paper, it's almost ridiculously simple. When we first started working with it, someone asked the obvious question:
Why tree fern? Why not just use moss?
And that's really the entire reason this mix exists.
We weren't trying to create another moisture-heavy orchid or Aroid mix. We wanted something for roots that appreciate a thorough soaking followed by plenty of air, while still giving them a fibrous surface to grab onto.
Moss would have changed that completely.
The gritty tree fern gave us what we were looking for: root attachment and useful moisture without filling all that valuable open space.
Combined with the chunky structure of the rest of the mix, #122 turned out to be remarkably simple and remarkably effective.
Sometimes you don't need fifteen ingredients. You just need the right ones doing the right jobs.
🛠️ CUSTOMIZE IT
One of #122's biggest advantages is the ability to adjust the particle size to your plant and growing conditions.
Precision: 1/8–1/4 inch - Extra Small
Classic: 1/4–3/8 inch - Small
Power: 3/8–1/2 inch - Medium
The other coarse component is matched accordingly.
Smaller grades create a tighter structure with somewhat greater moisture continuity. Larger grades create a more open structure with greater aeration and faster dry-down.
💧 BEFORE YOU USE IT
Dampen the mix before using, it will be so much easier to work with. saturate it and repotting is going to be 10x more difficult.
Avoid compacting the mix when potting because the spaces between particles are an important part of how #122 works.
🌿 WHAT CAN I GROW IN IT?
#122 is particularly well suited to epiphytic orchids, Hoyas, Dischidia and many Aroids, including climbing Philodendron, Monstera, Scindapsus, Epipremnum and other Aroids that appreciate a coarse, highly aerated root environment.
Its customizable particle size also makes it useful across a much broader range of plant and container sizes than a single-grade substrate.

This mix works exceptionally well with our completely natural Booster Pack (Myco+ Essentials). It is NOT a fertilizer. Instead, it helps bring the mix to life, supporting your plant as it establishes and helping create a better environment for the fertilizer you apply.
Adding the Booster Pack gives your plants an extra helping hand, especially during establishment, but it is absolutely not necessary for success. This mix is designed to perform exceptionally well on its own.
