Mix #100 is the ultimate African Violet mix. This mix  was built around a difficult combination, but one that is vital for most plants in this genus to thrive, high moisture retention, strong capillary wicking, and still plenty of oxygen around fine Gesneriad roots.

Its predominantly fibrous structure distributes moisture throughout the container while maintaining the air space needed for healthy roots. The result is a peat-free mix designed to stay consistently moist and wick effectively without becoming dense or swampy. this is achieved by using fibrous wicking material that has a larger particle size,

🌿 THE STORY BEHIND #100

This is one of the oldest formulas in our collection, and its story goes back even further than Tezula.

Growing up in Africa, African Violets and other Gesneriads filled the windowsills of my childhood home. My mother and grandmother grew mind-blowing African Violets, Gloxinia, Sinningia, Episcia, and Streptocarpus. I was completely obsessed with orchids at the time and paid far less attention to them than I probably should have.

Years later, a friend commercially growing African Violets contacted us because he was frustrated with the ready-to-use substrates available to him. He asked us to develop something different, with one non-negotiable requirement:

No peat.

Working alongside a world renowned commercial soil formulator, we stopped thinking about how to imitate a traditional peat-based violet mix and instead focused on what the roots actually needed: consistent moisture, reliable wicking, and enough pore space to remain oxygenated. when Dr. Y. received the "family recipe" she took one look at it and said with a few tweaks it could be taken from great to spectacular, and oh boy did she deliver!

Our grower friend tested the resulting formula commercially, and it blew his mind. We then distributed trial batches to experienced Gesneriad growers for testing under different growing conditions. Their feedback surpassed our wildest dreams, and within a short period of time, we were producing this mix for somer of the biggest commercial growers in the USA.

We've quietly made it for growers and customized it for customers for years. Now, for the first time, Mix #100 is joining our permanent collection.


🔬 WHAT'S INSIDE

Tree Fern Fiber provides the fibrous structure. Buffered Coconut Coir distributes and holds moisture. Perlite maintains air space and drainage. Vermiculite adds moisture retention and CEC. Worm Castings provide a modest organic component, while Biochar adds persistent porous structure and surfaces for microbial colonization.

Also suitable for many plants with similar moisture and aeration requirements, including Calathea, Maranta, Ctenanthe, Stromanthe, Spathiphyllum, Aglaonema, Dieffenbachia, Syngonium, smaller Philodendron, Anthurium andraeanum hybrids, Alocasia, Rex and Cane Begonias, non-succulent Peperomia, Fittonia, Pilea, and terrestrial ferns.


📦 BOOSTER PACK

This mix works exceptionally well with our completely natural Booster Pack (Myco+ Essentials). It is NOT a fertilizer. Instead, it helps bring the mix to life, supporting your plant as it establishes and helping create a better environment for the fertilizer you apply.

Adding the Booster Pack gives your plants an extra helping hand, especially during establishment, but it is absolutely not necessary for success. This mix is designed to perform exceptionally well on its own.
