This is the same mix my aunt who got me started with plants in the 80's used for all her seedlings and cuttings. She used it for decades before that and actually still uses it to this day. Sometimes, the old faithful mixes are even better than any of the trendy new mixes, this one most certainly has withstood the test of time and we still use it to this day to root our cuttings in, and for our plants that like a bit more water around their roots but absolutely have to have air movement too. We actually also provide this mix to a large carnivorous plant grower who uses it as a base for all his mixes.
This mix consists of New Zealand Sphagnum moss petals (there is no stem at all, just the fluffy good stuff). with no stem, the mix is super light and fluffy, and you never have to worry about those long strands becoming intertwined with your roots when it comes time to repot which is fantastic for plants with delicate roots that don't like to be disturbed.
The other ingredient in this mix is our double graded Perlite #2 which we meticulously grade to remove all inconsistent chunks and particles, so all you get is true #2 grade perlite. We take it a step further and wash the perlite before making this mix which makes a huge difference.
