AROID POTTING MIX #8

Gritty Tree Fern Fiber • Coconut Husk • Orchiata • Pumice • Charcoal • Worm Castings • Activated Biochar • Zeolite

BUILT FOR THE LONG HAUL + COLLECTORS WITH A WIDE VARIETY OF AROIDS.

Chunkiness: ★★★★½
Aeration: ★★★★½
Drainage: ★★★★½
Moisture Retention: ★★★½☆
Longevity: ★★★★☆
Wicking: ★★★½☆

Mix #8 was developed for growers who want to grow large specimen Aroids without constantly disturbing them for repotting.

Its coarse, chunky structure allows excess water to drain quickly while maintaining substantial air space around the roots. At the same time, its fibrous and porous components retain useful moisture throughout the substrate.

Most importantly, #8 was designed to remain open and structurally stable for as long as possible, slowing the gradual loss of structure that occurs as organic components age.

The result is a long-lasting, highly aerated Aroid mix that works across a remarkably wide variety of plants.

WHAT'S IN THE BAG

Gritty Tree Fern Fiber
Adds coarse, fibrous structure while retaining useful moisture.

Coconut Husk
Adds chunky organic structure and moisture retention.

Orchiata
Provides durable bark structure and helps maintain large air spaces throughout the mix.

Pumice
Adds porous mineral structure, drainage and aeration.

Charcoal
Adds lightweight, coarse structure and additional pore space.

Worm Castings
Adds organic matter and a modest nutrient contribution.

Activated Biochar
Adds porous carbon with nutrient-holding capacity and additional physical structure.

Zeolite
Adds durable mineral structure and cation exchange capacity.

DEVELOPED FOR

Mix #8 is particularly well suited to larger and established Aroids, including:

Anthurium • Philodendron • Monstera • Rhaphidophora • Alocasia • Mature Syngonium • Scindapsus • Epipremnum

It can also work well for larger tropical foliage plants with similar root requirements, including Spathiphyllum, Ficus, Schefflera, Cordyline, Dracaena and many indoor palms.

For seedlings, true epiphytes or plants requiring substantially different root conditions, another Tezula formula may be a better choice.

WATERING & USE

Fast draining doesn't mean fast drying.

Excess water drains quickly, but the mix still retains useful moisture within its chunky structure.

Water thoroughly, then allow the mix to partially dry before watering again. Avoid dramatically oversized containers, particularly when the root system is still small.

CUSTOMIZABLE PARTICLE SIZE

Mix #8 was originally designed using Orchiata Power and comparably sized ingredients. This remains our standard formulation and is the version intended for eventual retail distribution.

We also offer, by request, smaller and larger particle grades, allowing you to use the same core formula across plants of different sizes and stages of maturity. If no particle grade is selected when ordering, you will receive our standard Power grade.

Please note: Coconut husk cannot be graded and will remain the same size regardless of the particle grade selected.

WHY WE MADE IT

We hadn't even finished mixing the first test batch when we knew there was something special about #8.

Then we tested it on a group of mature Anthuriums, and the results were glorious!

But #8 was created for a problem that becomes increasingly important as Aroids get larger:

Repotting big specimen plants is a pain.

Traditional organic components gradually break down. As particles become smaller, the physical structure of the substrate changes and can become less open around the roots.

So #8 was designed to slow that process dramatically, maintaining a coarse, highly aerated root environment for longer.

The goal isn't simply to grow an Aroid. It's to give that Aroid the opportunity to become a specimen.

OPTIONAL BOOSTER PACK

Mix #8 is complete and ready to use exactly as it comes from the bag.

For growers who want additional root-zone amendments, we also offer our optional myco+ Essentials Booster Pack.

It is not a fertilizer and does not replace your normal fertilizing program.

The Booster Pack is completely optional. Mix #8 was formulated to perform exceptionally well on its own.
