USPS and UPS have both updated their excluded items on their covered claims pages and live plants are now officially classified as “not covered” by their built in shipping insurance.
Tezula plants has been packing plants for over 20 years. Our head packer has been packing rare and exotic plants for over 45 years and if I have to say so myself, our packing team is phenomenal. We can safely pack a plant to ensure its safe arrival but once your package leaves our warehouse, we have no control over the carrier or the way they handle your package. Tezula Plants nor its subsidiaries will be held responsible for damages outside of our control. We video the packing of each and every order to protect all parties involved.Should you wish to protect yourself, we are now offering the following optional insurance.
As of July 20, 2022 there are only two private insurers that we know of who are still willing to cover the shipping of live plants and the cost to insure live plants is by no means cheap! We will be the first to admit, these prices for coverage are insane, but the shipping of live plants is classified as high risk by insurers (which is why UPS and USPS no longer covered them at all) and is priced accordingly.
Cost of coverage is determined by the overall value of your order, once you have all the items in your cart and you know the total, if you are interested in insuring your package, select the line item which corresponds to your order total to buy the insurance.
IMPORTANT THINGS TO NOTE:
THE COST OF THIS INSURANCE IS NOT REFUNDABLE AND IT WILL NOT BE INCLUDED IN ANY PAYOUT IN THE EVENT OF AN INCIDENT, ONLY THE COST OF THE LOST PRODUCT/S WILL BE COVERED
COSMETIC DAMAGES ARE NOT A COVERED LOSS. A BROKEN LEAF, A BROKEN LEAF STEM OR YELLOWING FROM SHIPPING STRESS ARE EXAMPLES OF ITEMS NOT COVERED UNDER THIS COVERAGE. DAMAGES DETRIMENTAL TO THE SURVIVAL OF THE PLANT ARE THE ONLY ITEMS COVERED, SUCH AS A LOST PACKAGE, SIGNIFICANTLY DELAYED DELIVERY DUE TO CARRIER NEGLIGENCE (7 DAYS OF MORE), OR THE CARRIER DAMAGES THE PACKAGE AND ITS CONTENTS DUE TO IMPROPER HANDLING.
THIS COVERAGE ONLY APPLIES TO PLANTS WHILE IN TRANSIT, AND THE COVERAGE EXPIRES 24 HOURS AFTER RECORDED DELIVERY. THIS MEANS YOU HAVE 24 HOURS TO NOTIFY US WITH PICTURES OF THE DAMAGES BEING CLAIMED OR YOUR CLAIM WILL BE DENIED.
PROOF OF LOSS IS REQUIRED AS WITH ALL INSURANCE CLAIMS. PICTURES OF THE PACKAGING, AS WELL AS DAMAGES TO ALL ITEMS BEING CLAIMED MUST BE SUBMITTED TO PLANTS@TEZULA.COM WITHIN 24 HOURS OF ARRIVAL
SUBROGATION (MANDATORY) - IN THE EVENT OF ANY PACKAGE BEING DAMAGED AND THE PROOF OF LOSS SUBMITTED WARRANTS THE FILING OF A CLAIM, A RETURN LABEL WILL BE SENT SO THE DAMAGED ITEMS CAN BE RETURNED. THIS IS A MANDATORY STEP REQUIRED BY ABIC, NOT TEZULA AND THE ITEMS MUST BE RETURNED WITHIN 5 BUSINESS DAYS. FAILURE TO RETURN THE DAMAGED ITEMS FOR SUBROGATION PURPOSES WILL RESULT IN AN IMMEDIATE DENIAL OF THE CLAIM WITHOUT PAYMENT.
