Why not just use moss?\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAnd that's really the entire reason this mix exists.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWe weren't trying to create another moisture-heavy orchid or Aroid mix. We wanted something for roots that appreciate a thorough soaking followed by plenty of air, while still giving them a fibrous surface to grab onto.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMoss would have changed that completely.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe gritty tree fern gave us what we were looking for: root attachment and useful moisture without filling all that valuable open space.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eCombined with the chunky structure of the rest of the mix, #122 turned out to be remarkably simple and remarkably effective.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSometimes you don't need fifteen ingredients.
